Extending the reach of a leading audio brand.

Premium speaker brand Bowers and Wilkins were looking for a portable wireless speaker to be targeted at a new market for the company: young adults. Focusing on how and where the speaker would be used allowed more scope to design a product with a novel and original interaction, whilst keeping true to B&W’s DNA of beautifully engineered premium audio products.

A shared listening experience.

Through a dedicated app, users of Disc can share their tastes in music and listen to a curated playlist together. The app works by aggregating genres from music stored on the user’s device and from music apps they use. These genres are then combined with the user’s friends and the most popular genres are compiled into a playlist.

Disc then plays this playlist on shuffle. Users can see what is playing on their device, but can only skip or pause it if the song has been pulled from their library. To override this if needed, the Disc speaker offers controls in its central touchscreen.
